North 24 Paragnas, 05 January (H.S.): A heartbreaking incident has come to light in the Mominpur area under Matiya police station in North 24 Parganas. A young woman, involved in a love affair with a tailor, allegedly committed suicide along with her boyfriend.

According to police sources, the deceased have been identified as Farooq Gazi (24) and Karima Khatun (20). Their love affair began about five years ago through conversations on mobile phones and deepened over time. Later, they decided to get married.

As per information, Farooq Gazi was a tailor by profession and came from a relatively poor family. On the other hand, Karima Khatun's family was considerably more affluent. Farooq's family had accepted the marriage, but Karima's family refused to approve of the relationship. Farooq's family made several attempts to convince Karima's family, but all efforts failed.

According to local sources, on Sunday night, Farooq Gazi told Karima over phone that he had decided to end his life. Following this, their bodies were found hanging in separate rooms of their respective houses early Monday morning. The police suspect that the young woman also took her own life after learning of her lover's suicide.

On information, Matiya police arrived at the scene, took custody of the bodies, and sent them to the Basirhat police morgue for post-mortem. The police have launched an investigation into the matter. Both families are being questioned, and the post-mortems were scheduled to be conducted on Monday.
