Hooghly, 02 January (H.S.): A shocking incident has come to light from the Gargadi Ghat area of Ward Number One of Serampore Municipality of Hooghly district. Just 18 days after a seven-year love affair culminated in a grand wedding, a newlywed woman has filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws at the women's police station. She alleged that she was subjected to physical and mental torture since the marriage.

The victim, Richa Saha, is a resident of Serampore municipality area. Richa had been in a relationship with a young man from the same locality for several years. As per information, the young man was unemployed for the first four years of their relationship, which prevented them from getting married. After the young man secured a job with the Assam Rifles in December 2022, Richa's family initiated discussions about marriage. Allegedly, the young man was initially unwilling to marry at that time.

Finally, the couple had a registered marriage on February 28, 2024. Despite this, Richa was not taken to her in-laws' house for about a year and a half. The victim alleged that she suffered mental stress during this period and even filed for divorce. Later, a compromise was reached, and the couple had a traditional wedding ceremony on December 15, 2025.

Richa Saha alleged that the abuse began on the very day of her marriage. She claimed her husband brutally beat her at the instigation of her mother-in-law. She was physically assaulted without any reason. On Friday morning, she was beaten again, after which she went to Serampore Women's Police Station with her family members and filed a written complaint against her husband and in-laws.

Richa said, He has been beating me since the day of the wedding. He beats me even when I remain silent, and he beats me if I say anything. There is no reason for it. She has narrated the entire incident to the police in detail.

The victim's father also accompanied his daughter to the police station. He said, “They had a love marriage. I don't understand why my son-in-law is behaving this way just 18 days after the wedding.”

The police have registered a complaint and started an investigation into the matter.
