Nagpur, 02 Jan

(HS): In a novel and surprising move workers of an aspiring candidate locked

house of their leader so that he should not withdraw his nomination. The

candidate had filed nomination papers as an independent candidate as Bharatiya

Janata Party had rejected his application to be an official candidate of the

party.

The incident

occurred in Prabhag 11 of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Hazari Pahad. Kisan

Gawande had filed nomination papers as an independent candidate after BJP

rejected his application. The frustrated party workers wanted him to contest

elections and expected his selection by the party. Following the party’s

decision to field a different candidate, Kisan Gawande was expected to withdraw

his nomination on Friday, the last day for withdrawing nominations.

Irritated by the

decision of the party, supporters of Gawande locked his home so that he could

not move and reach the municipal corporation office to withdraw his nomination

papers.

BJP fielded 143

candidates in the 151 seats of Nagpur Municipal Corporation. The candidates on

eight seats left for Shiv Sena are also said to be BJP’s candidates.

BJP was not able

to finalise six candidates and distributed 12 AB forms against the six seats. During

scrutiny six nomination forms were rejected due to mismanagement of AB forms.
