Howrah, 17 August (H.S.) A 17-year-old youth died by drowning in a lake in Balitikuri area of Howrah on Sunday morning. The name of the deceased is Mohammad Sufiyan. He was a resident of Bankara Mandalpara area.

As per information, Sufiyan had gone swimming with his friends in the big lake located near ESI Hospital. There was a competition among the friends to cross the pond. Sufiyan got tired while swimming and drowned in the middle of the lake. His friend who was with him also got into trouble while trying to save him.

On information, the police and disaster management department reached the spot and after about three hours of effort, Sufiyan's body was recovered. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death in this matter. Sufiyan's friend has been detained for questioning. The body has been sent for post-mortem, which will reveal the exact cause of death.
