Kamrup (Assam), 18 August (HS): A tragic accident occurred near Bamunigaon railway station in Boko early this morning, where three women out for a morning walk were run over by a train and lost their lives.

The deceased have been identified as Uttara Das (50), Rumi Das (35) and Karvi Mali (35), all residents of Boko’s 2 No. Shatabari village. The incident took place around 4:45 AM near gate NN240 when two trains were crossing the spot simultaneously — the Up Puri Express and an NMJ goods train. The women were struck from behind by the Guwahati-bound train and killed on the spot.

According to reports, nearly 20 people have lost their lives in similar accidents along the Kamakhya–Jogighopa railway route in recent times. Following the incident, Boko police and railway police rushed to the site, recovered the bodies, and sent them for postmortem.

The tragedy has sparked grief and anger among locals, who have demanded preventive measures to avoid further mishaps on this stretch of the railway.
