Chennai, 17 August (H.S.) : Train tickets for Diwali in Tamil Nadu have been sold out within minutes of booking, highlighting the high demand for travel during the festive season. The advance reservations for special trains opened at 8 am on the IRCTC website and railway booking counters, with tickets across all classes available.
Sleeper class tickets on popular trains such as the Pandian, Nellai, and Podhigai express trains departing from Madurai, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi were quickly snapped up, with waiting lists appearing almost immediately. This surge in demand is expected, as Diwali falls on October 20 this year, and most passengers plan to travel to their hometowns on October 16 and 17.
This is not an isolated incident, as similar trends were observed in previous bookings. For instance, tickets for trains operating on October 29 were booked within 15 minutes, and return tickets for Diwali were also sold out rapidly. The swift sale of tickets underscores the need for additional special trains during peak festive seasons.
While the high demand for tickets is expected, the rapid sale of tickets poses challenges, the rapid sale of tickets highlights the importance of planning ahead for travel during peak seasons. Travelers are advised to explore alternative travel dates or classes to secure tickets.
