Kolkata, 17 August (H.S.) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate new metro routes in the state on August 22, including the newly constructed Yellow Line from Noapara to Jaihind, Orange Line from Hemant Mukherjee to Beliaghata and Green Line-1 and 2 from Sealdah to Esplanade. Preparations have started in the concerned departments for the programme to be held on that day. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has sent a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in this regard.

The Chief Minister has been invited to attend the inauguration ceremony. The letter reads, ''The Central Government has taken several important steps for the development of rail services and infrastructure in West Bengal. Currently, projects worth about ₹83,765 crore are underway in the state. West Bengal has received a record allocation of ₹13,955 crore in the current budget. Apart from this, work is underway to convert 101 railway stations in the state into world-class railway stations.'' West Bengal already has 9 'Made in India' Vande Bharat Express and 2 Amrit Bharat trains running.

The letter further said, 'In this context, there is a great news for the rail passengers of West Bengal on 22 August 2025. On that day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Sealdah-Esplanade Metro section, Beleghata-Hemant Mukherjee section, Noapara-Jai Hind (Airport) section and the new subway at Howrah Metro station. On the same day, he will also flag off several new metro trains. I invite you to be present at Jessore Road Metro Station to attend this historic event.' This comprehensive development of rail services in West Bengal will not only facilitate travel but will also give a new direction in the economic and social sectors.
