Hyderabad, 17 August (H.S.): The recent heavy rains in Telangana have significantly damaged rural roads managed by the Panchayat Raj department, as detailed in a preliminary report to minister Seethakka. Approximately 84.97 kilometers of roads are affected, with losses estimated at Rs 147.70 crore. To mitigate disruption, Seethakka instructed officials to prioritize temporary repairs, utilizing available funds for urgent actions. A comprehensive damage assessment report is requested promptly.

Emphasizing preparedness, the minister highlighted the importance of maintaining a regular drinking water supply in rural areas. During a review of the Mission Bhagiratha project, she directed Panchayat secretaries to be accessible to the public. Additionally, a special control room has been established in Hyderabad for rain-related emergencies, and citizens are encouraged to report road damage or flooding by calling a dedicated toll-free number.
