Bengali migrant worker dies while working abroad, family alleges murder

Kolkata, 17 August (H.S.) Once again a migrant worker from Bengal has died. Kadar Sheikh (30), a resident of Imamnagar-Nayan Sukh village under Farakka police station in Murshidabad district, was working as a mason in Andhra Pradesh for many years to support his family. But the family alleges that Kadar was murdered for demanding his dues.

The family said that the contractor under whom Kadar worked owed him about ₹5 lakhs. Kadar was repeatedly demanding money. In this connection, he returned to Andhra Pradesh 23 days ago and the plan was to go back to the village with the dues and start a small business.

The family said that Kadar last spoke to his family on August 14. He had told that he was fine and talks were going on with the contractor regarding the money. But on Saturday the family got information that his body soaked in blood was found near the railway line in Andhra Pradesh.

Kadar's sister Gultara Bibi alleges, Contractor Asif and his men kidnapped my brother from home, tied his hands and legs, beat him brutally and killed him. Later, to make this murder look like a suicide, the body was thrown near the railway line.

A complaint about the incident has been lodged with the Andhra Pradesh Police. Post-mortem was conducted at the local hospital on Sunday. The process of bringing the body to the native village is underway.

Farakka Trinamool MLA Manirul Islam said, Kadar Sheikh was a resident of our assembly constituency. The incident is sad. I have spoken to the deceased family and the government is making arrangements to bring the body to the village. The case will be monitored closely.

The deceased Kadar Sheikh has left behind his wife Tajlema Bibi, three sons and two daughters. The eldest daughter is 13 years old and the youngest son is just 3 years old.
