Meerut,
17 Aug (HS): Four persons, including a minor, suspected of being engaged in a
robbery were captured during an encounter here during regular patrol, police
said on Sunday.
During
Saturday's late-night incident, one of them was shot in the leg in retaliation,
according to reports. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra
stated that on August 7, motorcycle-borne criminals stole Rs 82,000 and two
mobile phones from two individuals on the Panchgaon-Patti Sanwal route. Since
the heist, police have been diligently investigating to locate the suspects. On
Saturday night, a Bhawanpur police squad was performing normal checks on the
Kinanagar highway when they indicated for a motorbike carrying four people to
stop. They allegedly attempted to flee
and opened fire on the officers.
Police
stated that they fired in self-defense, wounding Prince (19) in the leg.
Abhishek alias Abhi (19) and Akash (22) were also arrested, while a 15-year-old
accomplice was detained.
Police seized Rs 14,000 in cash, the stolen mobile phones, a bag, a
country-made handgun with ammunition, and the motorbike used in the crime. Police
stated multiple criminal charges have already been filed against them. The youth
who was harmed in the confrontation is being treated at a hospital.
