Kannauj,
16 Aug (HS): A 24-year-old contractual lineman died in Kannauj from an electric
shock, and his family members protested by depositing his body near the Tirwa
power substation on Saturday, authorities said. The incident occurred on Friday
in Kannauj's Pungra village when Brajesh Rathore, an electricity department
lineman, took a shutdown to repair a power line, but as soon as he climbed the
pole, power supply resumed, and he received an electric shock, according to officials.
According to police, he was transferred to Government Medical College Tirwa and
certified dead by physicians. The deceased's family members transported his
remains to the Tirwa Power House and blocked the route. For two hours, the throng made a ruckus. During
the traffic gridlock, police arrived and sought to convince the implicated
family members, but they refused to comply.
They
attempted to remove the corpse violently, resulting in a confrontation between
those who had stopped the road and the police.
Women also battled with police officers.
The police used lathis to drive away the mob and restore order after
three hours. According to Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar, Rathore, a
Thathiya resident, died as a result of an electrical shock. Following this, the family members caused a
commotion by depositing the body near the Tirwa power house, and some
miscreants threw stones at the police van, causing the glass to break. Some
policemen have also been hurt, according to Kumar, who added that the
perpetrators will be identified and dealt with accordingly.
Kannauj
MP and Samajwadi Party head Akhilesh Yadav expressed sadness on the lineman's
death. In a post on X, he stated that the death of an electrician in Kannauj due
to electrocution is terrible. In such a delicate setting of loss, the way the
police have interacted with the people, particularly with the woman, is quite
offensive. The guilty police officers should be suspended, and severe action
should be taken. We demand that Rs 1 crore be paid to the victim's family. Along
with this, there is a requirement for an inquiry to determine the cause of the
electrocution, so that such catastrophes do not occur again. Yadav emphasized
the importance of acknowledgment.
