Guwahati, 16 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday paid heartfelt tribute to former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his death anniversary.

Sarma described Vajpayee as not just a leader but a fatherly figure to all Indians, who steered the nation through difficult times and gave India a strong global identity.

Recalling Vajpayee’s contributions, Sarma highlighted his leadership during the Pokhran nuclear tests, the development of a nationwide network of highways, key connectivity initiatives and his unwavering commitment to Antyodaya—upliftment of the last person in society.

“On his Punyatithi today, I bow my head in reverence. The ideals of Atal Ji will continue to inspire us forever,” the Chief Minister said.
