Guwahati (Assam), 15 August (HS): The Assam Police Headquarters has announced that the Old Saraighat Bridge will remain partially closed for urgent repair work to be carried out by the NF Railway from August 14 to August 25.

According to the police, vehicles travelling from Guwahati towards Amingaon will use the normal route via the new Saraighat Bridge. Heavy goods vehicles such as trucks and dumpers coming from Lower Assam towards Upper Assam will be diverted through Baihata Chariali via Mangaldoi, while those heading to Guwahati from Lower Assam will be routed via the Naranarayan Setu.

During this period, only emergency vehicles and light motor vehicles coming from the Amingaon side towards Guwahati will be allowed to use the Old Saraighat Bridge.

Authorities have cautioned that partial closure of the bridge could lead to heavy traffic congestion on the approach roads. The public has been advised to plan their travel in advance and use alternate routes wherever possible.
