Bhubaneswar, 15 August (H.S.) Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Dr Vece Paes, the bronze medal-winning hockey player from the 1972 Munich Olympics.
In a condolence message, Patnaik described Dr Paes as a pioneering figure in sports medicine and sports administration, lauding his invaluable contributions to Indian hockey and his lifelong dedication to sports development.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family, friends, and followers in this hour of grief,” he said.
Dr Paes, father of tennis legend Leander Paes, was widely respected for his dual legacy as a celebrated athlete and a trailblazer in advancing sports science in India.
