Guwahati/Chennai, 15 August (HS): Nagaland Governor L Ganesh breathed his last on Friday evening in Chennai at the age of 80, succumbing to complications from a head injury sustained earlier this year.
Official sources revealed that Ganesh suffered the injury during a visit, reportedly due to an accident inside a hospital premises. After undergoing surgery, he was discharged but required readmission in recent weeks for follow-up treatment.
Tragedy struck again on Friday when he collapsed at home. Rushed to a hospital, he was declared dead by doctors at around 6:30 p.m. His death has sent shockwaves through political circles in Nagaland and other parts of the country.
A stalwart of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Ganesh had held several prominent posts, including Tamil Nadu BJP president and was widely respected for his organisational acumen, grassroots connect and unwavering loyalty to the party.
He assumed charge as Nagaland’s Governor in February 2023, having earlier served as Governor of Manipur and briefly held additional charge of West Bengal.
Raj Bhavan is yet to issue an official statement, while details of the last rites are expected soon.
