Guwahati (Assam), 15 August (HS): Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday paid tribute to the victims of the 2004 Dhemaji militant attack, recalling the tragic incident in a social media post.
He wrote that on this day in 2004, many students lost their lives to extremist violence in Dhemaji. “On this sacred day of freedom, I bow to the innocent souls who fell victim to terrorism,” the CM stated.
It may be recalled that a bomb blast carried out by ULFA militants at the Independence Day celebration site in Dhemaji district claimed 18 lives, including 13 students, leaving Assam in deep shock. ULFA had taken responsibility for the attack and later issued an apology.
