Purulia, 15 August (H.S.): While the whole country was celebrating independence on the occasion of Independence Day, Dinesh Agarwal, a known businessman of Purulia district attempted suicide in the premises of District Magistrate (DM) office.

As per information, during the celebration of Independence Day in the morning, Dinesh Agarwal suddenly reached the DM office and injured his body with a blade. The incident created chaos in the premises. The policemen present on the spot immediately controlled him and sent him to the hospital. Even after treatment, he again reached the DM office in a blood-soaked condition and demanded justice.

Dinesh Agarwal alleged that due to corruption in the District Land and Land Reforms Department, his land has been illegally registered as 'wasted land'. He tried to contact the DM office several times in this matter, but was not heard. He says that he was forced to register his protest by shedding blood on Independence Day.

Recently, a case came to light in the district where the Tribal Development Department had given about 90 decimals of land of the Orang tribe to a promoter without permission, in which some employees of the land department were found to be involved. Two people were arrested in this case, despite this, the clear instructions of the Chief Minister do not seem to be followed here.

The police have started investigating the case and the security of the DM office has been tightened.
