Howrah, 14 August (H.S.) Alok Naskar, a 50-year-old man driving a potato-laden van, died after a man slapped him in the Kona area of Dasnagar on Thursday morning. After the incident, the angry mob beat up the accused. The police reached the spot and arrested the accused.

As per information, Alok Naskar, a resident of Kona area under Dasnagar police station, was passing through the Kona School crossing of Banaras Road with potatoes on the van. Meanwhile, the van went out of control and hit Asim Das standing on the roadside, due to which the potatoes spilled on the road. In anger, Asim slapped Alok, following which he fell on the road and suffered serious head injuries. He died on the way to the hospital. As soon as the news of the incident spread, people in the area got angry. The crowd surrounded Asim Das and started beating him. On information, a heavy police force reached the spot and somehow saved the accused from the crowd.

The relatives of the deceased have demanded the strictest punishment for the accused. The police have sent the body for post-mortem and have initiated an investigation into the matter.
