Jalpaiguri, 14 August (H.S.) Two people were killed in two separate incidents of elephant attack in Banarhat block of Jalpaiguri district. The deceased are Somra Oraon (50) and Guruya Oraon (60).

As per information, the first incident occurred at around 12:30 pm when a wild elephant suddenly entered the residential area in Duramarir Chanadipa village of Banarhat block and attacked a person named Somra Oraon (50). Somra Oraon died on the spot in this incident.

The second incident occurred near Totapara tea garden at around 4:30 am on Thursday in which another elephant attacked a person named Guruya Oraon (60) in the bushes adjoining the Shishokhola forest. The person died in this attack. Local villagers informed the police after seeing the dead body.

Forest department officials and the police have jointly started an in-depth investigation into the matter and the administration is also insisting on increasing security in the area.
