Malda, 14 August (H.S.): Harishchandrapur police in Malda district arrested three miscreants late Wednesday night while they were allegedly planning a burglary. District SP Pradeep Yadav said on Thursday afternoon that dangerous weapons were seized from their possession. The accused were produced in court and remanded to five days in police custody.

The incident unfolded when civic volunteers Bittu Das and Pintu Das were returning home from duty. They noticed an unidentified youth loitering suspiciously near the vacant residence of Sub-Inspector Biplab Kumar Das at Kalipukur Para in the Harishchandrapur police station area. When questioned, he claimed he was taking shelter from the heavy rain, but his bare feet aroused suspicion. Pintu Das immediately informed a nearby police patrol van.

Soon after, two more youths arrived at the spot, just as the police vehicle reached. All three were apprehended. A search led to the recovery of a large cutter, an iron rod, a plier, and a folding knife. During interrogation, the accused admitted they were planning to break into the house and commit theft.

The arrested men have been identified as Kanchan Baid (22), Arup Baid (21), and Durlabh Baid (26), all residents of Dakshin Rampur village. A case has been registered at Harishchandrapur Police Station (Case No. 862/25 dated 13/08/2025) under Sections 310(4)/310(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police have initiated efforts to trace their other associates.
