Kolkata, 14 August (H.S.) ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ was observed across the country on Thursday to commemorate the immense suffering, violence and displacement suffered during the partition of India in 1947. On this occasion, special programmes were organised at Sealdah Railway Station, where the stories and struggles of refugees during the time of partition were recalled.

Sealdah station was a major point during partition, where lakhs of refugees from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) stepped in. This place has witnessed one of the biggest human displacements in history.

This year's programme featured a photo exhibition depicting the migration and struggles of refugees. Apart from this, a street play highlighting the historical impact of partition and documentaries were also screened to familiarise the youth with this painful chapter of history.

The aim of the event was to cherish the memory of millions of people who suffered unimaginable hardships and also to give the message to the society to adopt the values of peace, unity and compassion.
