Kolkata, 14 August (H.S.): Union Minister Dr. Sukanta Majumdar on Thursday paid tribute on social media to millions who were displaced or lost their lives during the Partition of India, marking Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.
In his message, Majumdar wrote, “On this August 14, Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, I bow to all the brave children of Bharat Mata who became homeless overnight and were forced to face the horrors of Partition.”
The Partition of 1947 led to the displacement of nearly one to two crore people and claimed an estimated two to twenty lakh lives, according to historians.
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in 2021, declared August 14 to be observed every year as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to honor the suffering and sacrifice of Indians during that period.
