Kolkata, 14 August (H.S.): Kolkata is going to get a grand gift before Durga Puja. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the city on August 22 and inaugurate three new metro routes from Sealdah to Esplanade (Green Line), Ruby to Beleghata (Orange Line) and Noapara to Jai Hind (Airport) (Yellow Line). Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has sent a formal invitation for the event.

BJP leaders have described the event as a historic gift to Bengal before Durga Puja. Party's former state president Sukanta Majumdar on Thursday shared the invitation letter sent by the Railway Minister on social media and welcomed the Prime Minister's visit, calling it historic. According to railway sources, the inauguration programme will be held in Dum Dum, where the Prime Minister will formally launch metro services after attending an administrative programme.

The opening of these three routes will strengthen the city's traffic system and provide convenience to lakhs of passengers. This metro expansion is being considered a major change in the city's infrastructure before the festivals. The administration has intensified preparations for the inauguration ceremony.
