-LoP blames government’s monsoon preparedness failures after fatal tree collapse in rain
New Delhi, August 14 (HS): Delhi Assembly’s Leader of Opposition Atishi on Thursday targeted the city government over the death of a man in a rain-triggered tree collapse on Hansraj Sethi Marg, demanding the immediate sacking of Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma from the cabinet.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Atishi said the tragedy claimed the life of a father while his daughter is battling for survival in hospital.
“This monsoon, several Delhiites have lost their lives because of the government’s failures. Who will take responsibility? The Chief Minister must act immediately and remove the PWD Minister from her council,” she wrote.
Atishi alleged there was no preparedness for the rains, leading to hazardous conditions including Thursday’s fatal accident where a tree came crashing down on a motorcyclist.
Reiterating her demand, she added that Minister Parvesh Verma should resign without delay, accepting accountability for the PWD’s shortcomings that, she claimed, have cost lives.
