New Delhi, August 14(HS): Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched a helmet-wearing awareness programme at Connaught Place as part of the ‘Consequences’ Road Safety Campaign. The initiative, organised by the Delhi Transport Department, aims to promote road discipline and reduce fatalities caused by non-compliance with helmet rules.

The event was attended by Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh and Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj.

Addressing the media at the launch, the Chief Minister revealed a startling statistic — four out of every ten road accidents in Delhi occur due to riders not wearing helmets. “This campaign is our step towards reducing such tragic incidents. The government has decided to designate hundreds of Delhi’s youth as brand ambassadors for this awareness drive,” she announced.

Emphasising the importance of discipline on the roads, CM Gupta said, “By following traffic laws and maintaining discipline, we not only safeguard ourselves but also contribute to protecting the lives of others. Remember — safety is a habit, not an option. Your helmet, your alertness, and your discipline are the guarantees of your safety and everyone else’s.”

The campaign will see widespread outreach across the city with a focus on instilling road safety as second nature among two-wheeler riders.
