Suvendu Adhikari vs TMC MLA: Political Firestorm Over Alleged Threat to Nandigram Resident in Tarakeswar

Hooghy, 24 July (H.S.): Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, launched a fresh attack on the Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee through a social media post on Thursday. Adhikari accused TMC MLA from Tarakeswar, Ramendu Singh Roy, of threatening a resident of Nandigram, who runs a shop in Tarakeswar area.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Suvendu Adhikari posted a video and wrote,

TMC MLA from Tarakeswar, Ramendu Singh Roy, is threatening a resident of my Nandigram constituency who runs a shop in your area! Is this your way of taking revenge on the people of Nandigram because your boss Mamata Banerjee lost there? Remember one thing: not every Nandigram resident may be my worker, but I stand with every Nandigram resident.

In response, Tarakeswar MLA Ramendu Singh Roy hit back strongly, accusing the BJP, Suvendu Adhikari, and the Indian Railways of engaging in dirty politics. Speaking to Hindusthan Samachar, Roy clarified the situation, saying,

The local vendors in that area were evicted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF). A man from Rajasthan has now set up a shop there, and he has employed a person from Nandigram. Railways fall under the BJP-led central government, Rajasthan has a BJP government, and now even the shop's worker is from Suvendu’s constituency. Local people were displaced as a result of this political favoritism. That is what I had pointed out.

The incident has sparked a political blame game, with the BJP accusing the TMC of vendetta politics, while the TMC blames the BJP for using central agencies and institutions like the Railways for political gains.
