Shillong, 25 July (HS): Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma took part in the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PM-JVM) Summit for Rural Empowerment on Friday, where key stakeholders gathered to promote inclusive tribal development.
In a significant boost for grassroots entrepreneurship, financial support amounting to ₹3.90 crore was extended to 130 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) during the event. This funding aims to bolster tribal enterprises across the state.
The summit brought together policymakers, farmers, SHG members and industry experts to deliberate on rural resilience. Over 55,000 women-led self-help groups and 20,000 farmer collectives were spotlighted for their vital role in driving self-reliance in Meghalaya’s rural economy.
Conrad Sangma reaffirmed the state's commitment to building agricultural strength through schemes like CM Assure and CM Elevate, which are focused on expanding input access and ensuring sustainable livelihoods.
Furthering the agenda, key MoUs were inked with academic and skill development institutions to empower rural and tribal communities through training, innovation, and entrepreneurship support.
Led by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the PM-JVM initiative aims to create a collaborative model for the integrated development of tribal populations in Meghalaya and beyond.
