Guwahati, 24 July (HS): A policeman identified as Hiteshwar Kalita killed while walking near the Dighalipukhri area of Guwahati on Thursday, reportedly due to extreme heat conditions.
According to police sources, Kalita was on foot heading towards Pan Bazar when he collapsed and killed on the spot. A police team rushed to the location upon receiving information and shifted the body to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem.
The incident comes amid a severe heatwave in the region. The Meteorological Department reported a maximum temperature of 37°C in Guwahati on Thursday, but residents said the heat felt as high as 49°C, making daily activities increasingly difficult.
