NGT Directs Virudhunagar Collector to Act Against Firecracker Units Violating Norms

Chennai, 24 July (H.S.): The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has taken a stern stance against firecracker units in Virudhunagar district that are allegedly violating environmental norms. In response to a petition, the NGT has directed the Virudhunagar Collector to inspect and take action against these units. The Collector has been asked to submit a detailed report within four weeks, outlining the measures taken to address the violations.

The NGT's directive comes amid concerns over the environmental and health impacts of firecracker production in the region. The petition had highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of environmental regulations to prevent pollution and ensure public safety.

With the festival season approaching, the NGT's intervention is expected to have a significant impact on the firecracker industry in Virudhunagar. The Collector's report will likely provide insight into the extent of the violations and the actions taken to curb them.
