Ballia,
24 July (HS): Locals and government officials clashed in a village here over
the building of a drain, injuring four people, including two police constables,
authorities said on Thursday. According to police, eight persons, five of whom
are women, have been detained in connection with the event that occurred on
Wednesday in Majhvaliya village, which is part of the Sikandarpur police
station area.

Tehsildar C P Yadav, Village Development Officer Pramod Kumar Singh, and the
village head were inspecting the installation of a drainage system in
Majhvaliya when a crowd led by villager Manohar Lal assembled, according to
police. The mob showered the government crew with stones and assaulted them
with sticks in an attempt to prevent building progress.
The
attack injured four persons, including constables Ayush Singh and Vinod Kumar,
according to authorities. Singh suffered major head injuries. All of the
injured are being treated at the district hospital. Rajneesh, Deputy
Superintendent of Police in Sikandarpur, said that a complaint has been filed
against nine named and numerous anonymous individuals in the affair. So far, eight suspects, five of them are
women, have been apprehended. He stated that peace has been restored in the
neighborhood.
