Bhubaneswar, 24 July (H.S.): A potentially serious mishap was averted on Thursday morning when the Mahima Gosain Express (Train No. 20831, Sambalpur–Shalimar Express) experienced a derailment shortly after departing from Sambalpur City Railway Station.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:22 AM when the rear trolley of a general coach, positioned adjacent to the guard van, derailed while the train was moving at a very slow speed. The train had just departed from Sambalpur City at 9:18 AM and was en route to Sambalpur Junction when the derailment took place on the Sambalpur City–Sambalpur section.
According to officials from the East Coast Railway, no injuries or casualties were reported. The derailment was swiftly addressed, and after a brief halt, the train resumed its onward journey toward Sambalpur.
Senior railway officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), arrived at the site shortly after the incident to supervise the situation. Restoration work was undertaken immediately to normalize rail traffic in the affected section.
An official inquiry has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the derailment. Meanwhile, railway authorities are closely monitoring services in the region to ensure operational safety and minimize any disruption to passenger movement.
