Hooghy, 24 July (H.S.): In a major step towards industrial revival, the long-defunct Hindustan Motors factory in Hindmotor, which shut down in 2014, is now set to witness a new lease of life. Nearly a decade after its closure, the land once used for manufacturing the legendary Ambassador cars is being repurposed for modern industrial development.
On Thursday, in the presence of senior district officials including the Additional District Magistrate and Sub-Divisional Officer, the West Bengal government officially installed acquisition signage on the premises, marking the formal possession of approximately 395 acres of land from the former factory site.
A major portion of the acquired land has been allotted to Titagarh Wagons, which plans to manufacture metro rail coaches and EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) AC coaches at the site. The remaining land is also being explored for additional industrial ventures, signalling a broader scope for economic rejuvenation in the region.
