NEET-PG Aspirants from Tamil Nadu Seek State Intervention for Center Re-allotment

Chennai, 24 July (H.S.): Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) chief K S Alagiri has written to the National Testing Agency (NTA), requesting that NEET exam centers be allotted to students within their home state, preferably in their home district or adjoining districts. This move comes as a relief to thousands of students from Tamil Nadu who were allotted exam centers in other states, particularly Andhra Pradesh, causing significant inconvenience and financial burden.

The issue has been ongoing, with many students and organizations, including the Doctors' Association for Social Equality (DASE), raising concerns over the arbitrary allotment of exam centers. DASE has pointed out that long-distance travel is particularly challenging for women candidates, who often require an escort for safety and support, adding to their financial and logistical strain.

Earlier, the Tamil Nadu government had passed a bill seeking exemption from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), but the Centre denied assent. Chief Minister MK Stalin has vowed to continue the legal fight against NEET, describing the Centre's decision as a dark chapter in the history of the federal constitution. The state government is likely to move the Supreme Court against the Centre's stand on the anti-NEET bill.
