Pilibhit,
24 July (HS): In a significant relief to refugees displaced from East Pakistan
(now Bangladesh), the Uttar Pradesh government plans to provide property
ownership rights to 2,196 households living in 25 villages in Pilibhit
district. Following a recent direction by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, these
families' long-standing desire is nearly fulfilled.
The
chief minister has sent directives to the relevant departments, and only formal
processes remain. After 62 years of waiting, the displaced families are finally
going to receive legal recognition for the property on which they have been
living and farming. Pilibhit District Magistrate Gyanendra Singh told the media
that once the final guidelines are received, the administration will
immediately begin the process.
Pilibhit's
minister in charge, Baldev Singh Aulakh, thanked the chief minister for his
decision. The move was regarded as a long-overdue appreciation of the refugees'
sacrifices and fight by BJP district president Sanjeev Pratap Singh, former
zila panchayat member Manjeet Singh, and other local politicians. The
government awarded these folks land for dwelling and farming in 1960, but they
were never given formal title. Because
they lacked legal rights, they were also denied assistance under government
welfare programs. The current decision was made during a meeting presided over
by the chief minister. Verified refugee families will soon receive their
ownership paperwork.
According
to official statistics, 1,466 verification reports for the 2,196 displaced
households residing in Pilibhit's 25 villages have already been submitted to
the state government. The action will aid refugees in around 25 villages
throughout Kalinagar and Puranpur tehsils.
Notable villages include Tatarganj, Bamanpur, Baila, Siddh Nagar,
Shastri Nagar, and Nehru Nagar.
