Kolkata, 1 July (H.S.): Students of South Calcutta Law College staged a protest on Tuesday outside the college premises following the alleged gangrape of a 24-year-old female student. Expressing outrage, they demanded immediate and concrete steps from the college administration to ensure student safety.
Holding placards and raising slogans, the students called for justice and institutional reforms. Protesters emphasized the need to overhaul the college’s governing body and include student representatives to prevent such incidents in the future.
“No one involved in such a heinous crime deserves to remain in this institution,” said one student. Another female student added, “Our parents send us here believing we’ll be safe. But what do we get in return? There’s no real security in this college.”
In response to the incident, the college authorities terminated the services of the prime accused, Manojeet Mishra, who was employed on a contractual basis. Two students allegedly involved in the crime have also been expelled from the institution.
All three accused — Manojeet Mishra, along with co-accused Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee — have been arrested by the police, and a formal case has been registered against them.Students protesg
