Mumbai, 01 July (HS): Congress leader Nana Patole
was suspended for a day from the Legislative Assembly, as he tried to pick the
mace in front of the Speaker’s chair. Following the action by Speaker Rahul
Narvekar, all the opposition members staged a walkout.
After the Question Hour on Tuesday, Patole alleged
that the Agriculture Minister is insulting the farmers and should apologise
publicly. Nana Patole, along with Vijay Wadettiwar, Aslam Sheikh, Amin Patel, and others, entered the well. The demand was supported by the opposition
members. The ruling party members also entered the well, which led to a ruckus
and Narvekar adjourned the House for five minutes.
Patole again raised the issue when the House
reassembled. Despite Narvekar’s appeal, the opposition continued with their
demand. Patole then tried to remove the mace. Narvekar then suspended Patole
for a day.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, expressing
feelings about farmers is not wrong, but pressuring the Speaker in such a manner
is not acceptable. Even after suspension Patole remained in the House for a few
minutes. Narvekar then ordered him to go out of the House. Following Patole, the
opposition members raised slogans against the ruling alliance and staged a walk
out.
