OAS Officers Defer Mass Leave Following CM's Assurance on BMC Official Assault

Bhubaneswar, 1 July (H.S.) The Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) Association has decided to postpone its planned mass leave following a firm assurance from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi that strong action will be taken against those involved in the alleged assault on a senior Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) official.

The decision came after a high-level meeting held late Monday night, where the Chief Minister, along with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and Commissioner of Police, met with representatives of the OAS Association. During the discussions, CM Majhi condemned the incident and pledged strict legal action against all individuals responsible, irrespective of their influence.

The OAS officers had announced a mass leave protest beginning July 1 in response to the alleged assault on Ratnakar Sahoo, Additional Commissioner of the BMC. The incident reportedly occurred during a grievance redressal meeting at the BMC office, when a group of individuals physically attacked the senior official.

While agreeing to defer the leave, the Association emphasized that the protest has not been withdrawn entirely. It reiterated its demand for exemplary punishment for the accused and called for enhanced security arrangements for government officers in the workplace.

Meanwhile, Commissionerate Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and confirmed the arrest of three individuals.
