Ahmedabad, June 13 (H.S.): The nation mourns following the crash of Air India flight AI-171 en route to London, which occurred in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Thursday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah late in the evening assessed the rescue operations at the site, revealing that the central government was informed within 10 minutes, prompting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to monitor the situation personally. The flight had 230 passengers and 12 crew members; currently, only one survivor has been confirmed. Shah emphasized the challenges faced due to the aircraft carrying 1.25 lakh liters of fuel and high temperatures, hampering rescue efforts. All bodies have been recovered, and over 1,000 DNA tests are planned for identification, conducted in Gujarat. Rapid DNA sample collection is underway, with authorities also reaching out to families abroad. The Gujarat Forensic Science Lab and the National Forensic Sciences University will collaborate to expedite testing and return the remains to families. Additional support measures for affected families include housing, mental health, and trauma care. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has formed a high-level investigation team to look into the tragedy. Amit Shah extended condolences on behalf of the government, affirming their commitment to support the victims’ families during this difficult time.
