Dhubri, 13 June (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday expressed serious concern over the law and order situation in Dhubri district. He said that anti-social elements in Dhubri are hatching plans to merge Dhubri with Bangladesh, which has been revealed by the Naveen Bangla poster. These posters have provocative slogans written on religious grounds. He called it a well-planned conspiracy to spoil social harmony. He said that after getting information about this, the Chief Minister has reached Dhubri today. The Chief Minister said that all the security personnel including the Rapid Action Force are being deployed here. An order has been issued to shoot the miscreants on sight. The Chief Minister said that no one's plans will be fulfilled.

The Chief Minister told reporters that around Bakrid, one after the other provocative incidents came to the fore in the district. He said, The day after Bakrid, someone threw a severed cow's head in front of the Hanuman temple. Leaders of both communities and the peace committee intervened to calm the situation, but the next day another head was thrown at the same place, which further deepened the tension.

After this incident, stone pelting also took place in some parts of the district, which further worsened the situation.

Chief Minister Sarma said that a day before Bakrid, provocative posters were put up in the district by an unknown organization named 'Naveen Bangla'. These posters had provocative slogans and claims like merging Dhubri with Bangladesh. He said, One of these posters was also pasted on the signal structure of the army, which is a very serious matter. The Chief Minister said that instructions have been given to arrest all the criminal type people and all those against whom warrants are pending.

The Chief Minister alleged that some communal elements are trying to disturb the peace of Assam. He sternly said that the government will take strict action against those who take law and order in their hands. He said, Orders have been issued to shoot at the miscreants at night. Whoever tries to pelt stones or spread riots will not be spared.

The Chief Minister himself reached the district to take stock of the situation and gave a clear message - No one will be allowed to play with the unity and harmony of Assam.

Security has now been tightened in Dhubri. Deployment of police and paramilitary forces has been increased in sensitive areas. The administration has appealed to the people to maintain restraint and not pay attention to rumors.
