Delhi, 13 June (H.S.): The Directorate General of Training (DGT) and Shell India have launched a Green Skills-focused Electric Vehicle (EV) training program to empower youth. This initiative will set up EV skill labs in selected ITIs and NSTIs, providing hands-on training in Green Skills and Electric Mobility. Implemented by Edunet Foundation across five states, it aims to equip thousands of students with industry-ready skills in electric mobility and renewable energy, supporting India's green economy vision.
The program includes a structured multi-tier model, featuring a 240-hour advanced EV Technician course at four NSTIs, a 90-hour job-oriented EV skills course at 12 ITIs with Shell-supported labs, and a 50-hour foundational green skills module at other ITIs. The curriculum covers essential topics such as EV systems, diagnostics, battery technology, and digital tools, with co-certification from Shell and DGT. Additionally, over 250 instructors will receive Training of Trainers (ToT) to ensure quality instruction.
Specialized EV skill labs will offer hands-on training, expert-led sessions, and support for placement and certification, boosting employability in the green energy and EV fields. The initiative aligns with the Government of India's efforts to promote Green Energy and EV adoption as part of its net-zero ambitions, complemented by various state policies to expedite electric mobility and generate green jobs, highlighting the rising need for a skilled workforce in these sectors.
DGT, as the leading body for vocational training, will mobilize students and trainers while supporting the institutional ecosystem to align with national education and skill development standards. The Minister of State for Skill Development and Education emphasized that collaboration with Shell India demonstrates the government's commitment to integrating skilling with sustainability, addressing green energy, electric mobility, and climate transition as key growth opportunities. This initiative aims to create a workforce ready for both jobs and climate challenges, equipping young Indians with skills essential for the global green economy.
DGT's Director General, Smt. Trishaljit Sethi, highlighted that the partnership with Shell India enhances ITIs and NSTIs by introducing advanced training and industry-focused curriculum. By incorporating Electric Vehicle technologies into vocational training, students will gain practical experience tailored to real-world demands. The program offers joint certification, trainer development, and placement support, significantly boosting youth employability in the green mobility sector.
Mansi Madan Tripathy, Chairperson of Shell India, reiterated the company's commitment to enabling future job opportunities through green energy skills, contributing to a lower-carbon future. The collaboration with DGT and Edunet Foundation provides students with practical, future-ready skills in green energy and electric mobility, empowering them to succeed in a changing energy landscape and support India’s net-zero goals. This partnership effectively prepares the youth for careers in a sustainable economy, equipping them with relevant skills and certifications to thrive in a future-focused workforce.
