Nagpur, 12 June (HS):
In a unique step to promote rural education and improve enrolment in government
schools, the Kaniyadol Kokarda Gram Panchayat, in Kalmeshwar bloc of Nagpur
district, has passed a resolution to waive property tax for families enrolling
their children in the local Zilla Parishad (ZP) school for the academic year
2025–26.
The resolution was
unanimously adopted during a recent general body meeting of the panchayat. The
initiative was proposed by Sarpanch Lal Mohammad Maladhari, who emphasized the
urgent need to reverse the trend of declining student enrolment in
government-run schools and expand access to quality education within the
village.
The proposal
received widespread support from all panchayat members. Officials believe this
initiative will not only ease the financial burden on rural families but also
encourage higher enrollment in the village’s ZP school. Community members have
lauded the resolution, describing it as a progressive model that could be
replicated by other panchayats across the state.
In recent years, the Kaniyadol Kokarda Gram Panchayat has made notable
efforts to strengthen local education infrastructure. These include donating
computer systems to the ZP school, providing free school bags and ID cards to
students, and promoting digital learning within classrooms.
Villagers have welcomed the latest move as another positive step toward
ensuring equal educational opportunities for all children, particularly those
in rural areas where access to resources can be limited.
