Majuli (Assam), 13 June (HS): In view of the serious flood situation in Assam, the Spear Corps of the Indian Army conducted a joint exercise under 'Operation Jal Rahat' in Majuli Island district in collaboration with SDRF and District Administration.
According to the Army Public Relations Officer, Majuli, which is the world's largest river island, has faced the tragedy of severe floods in recent years due to the rising water level of the Brahmaputra and Subansiri rivers. In view of this experience, this joint exercise was conducted, so that relief and rescue operations can be made more coordinated and effective in case of disaster.
During the exercise, techniques of rescuing stranded people with the help of ropes and boats were practiced. Also, food items, clean drinking water, clothes and hygiene kits were distributed as relief material. Temporary tents were set up by the Army for the displaced people, while in a temporary medical camp, Army doctors provided primary health services to the flood affected.
During this time, the Army, living up to its motto Service before Self, showed that quick, organized and dedicated efforts in times of crisis cannot only save lives, but also rebuild the affected communities.
This exercise is considered an important step towards strengthening the preparation for relief and rescue operations. ---------
