Jaunpur, 13 June (HS): On Friday,
authorities announced the commencement of a program to resuscitate the
endangered Peeli River in Badlapur constituency. The campaign, which uses the
tagline Badlapur Sankalpit, Peeli Nadi Sanrakshit (Badlapur
Resolved, Peeli River Protected), began on Thursday with Vedic prayers. The
event was led by the constituency's BJP MLA, Ramesh Chandra Mishra. Work to
rebuild the riverbanks is currently beginning, according to MLA Mishra, who
also stated that the river is a lifeline for the Badlapur assembly and that
restoring it will benefit the area's farmers, birds, and animals. On Wednesday,
he met with District Magistrate Dinesh Chandra to develop an action plan,
putting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's river conservation resolution into
action.
The initiative will engage local
residents and social organizations. The 70-kilometer-long Peeli River, a
seasonal river that originates in Sultanpur, runs through over a dozen villages
in Badlapur before joining the Gomti River. The river, which was historically
crucial for daily living, has been drying up in recent years owing to
encroachment. Mishra observed that rivers and drains are drying up as a result
of less rainfall in recent years. He said that efforts are underway to rescue
the Peeli River, which serves as a lifeline for Badlapur.
