- Connecting North and South Bengal will enhance connectivity, comfort and convenience for passengers

Guwahati, 13 June (HS): With an aim to improve rail connectivity and make travel more convenient for passengers, the Railways has decided to start a new train service between Jalpaiguri Road and Sealdah. Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said on Friday that this new train service will provide a direct and efficient transport facility between Sealdah, the southern hub of Kolkata, and the important northern city of Jalpaiguri Road, thereby significantly increasing connectivity between North and South Bengal. This is the first express train to run through the Nashipur Rail Bridge, which will reduce the travel time between North and South Bengal to a great extent. Also, this is the first end-to-end direct train service between Jalpaiguri Road and Sealdah, fulfilling a long-awaited demand of the people of the region.

The inaugural run of this new train service between Jalpaiguri Road and Sealdah is scheduled on 14 June. The inaugural special train number 03116 (Jalpaiguri Road - Sealdah) will depart from Jalpaiguri Road at 14:00 hrs and reach Sealdah at 04:00 hrs the next day.

Regular services of this new train will commence from 20 June. Train number 13115 (Sealdah - Jalpaiguri Road) Humsafar Express will run every Friday from 20 June. This train will depart from Sealdah at 23:40 hrs and reach Jalpaiguri Road at 12:00 hrs the next day. In the return direction, train number 13116 (Jalpaiguri Road - Sealdah) Humsafar Express will run every Saturday from 21 June. The train will depart from Jalpaiguri Road at 20:30 and reach Sealdah at 08:10 the next day.

This new train service will be especially beneficial for tourists, students and businessmen as it will provide them with a faster and more reliable travel option. Apart from this, this train service will also help in promoting economic activities in North Bengal, which will facilitate the movement of people and goods and will boost trade, commerce and regional development.
