New Delhi, June 12 (H.S.): Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL) has successfully tested its hybrid VTOL UAV, Rudrastra, at the Pokhran firing range with the Indian Army. The UAV performed vertical take-off and landing, traveled over 170 km in 1.5 hours, and returned to the launch point, showcasing strong operational capability. This achievement is a significant milestone in India's defence technology and enhances military strength against regional challenges, particularly regarding Pakistan. A precision-guided anti-personnel warhead was deployed during the test, which exploded at low altitude, demonstrating tactical effectiveness. The successful performance reinforces India's push for indigenous defence technologies and supports the self-reliance initiative.
The Rudrastra UAV has versatile mission capabilities, including extended flight range, real-time surveillance, and precise targeting, making it a formidable asset on the battlefield. Its vertical take-off and landing feature allows operation in inaccessible areas. This drone aligns with the DRDO's Rustam program, which earlier completed trials with indigenous engines of 180-220 horsepower, marking a significant advancement in India's self-reliance in defense capabilities.
