Odisha Government Celebrates One Year in Office with Statewide ‘Vikas Vahan’ Launch

Bhubaneswar, 12 June (H.S.): Marking the completion of its first year in office, the Odisha Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, launched the state-level ‘Vikas Vahan Yatra’ on Wednesday. The flagship initiative, organised by the Department of Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, was flagged off from Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Majhi emphasized that in a democracy, the people are supreme. “The true purpose of life lies in serving the people. Our double-engine government, with strong leadership both at the Centre and in the State, is working at double speed to fulfil the aspirations of the people,” he stated. “A hallmark of our government is our sincere effort to connect with the people.”

The Chief Minister highlighted that in just one year, Odisha has witnessed transformative progress across various sectors. From empowering women, farmers, tribal communities, and youth to strengthening infrastructure and boosting industrial potential, the government has created widespread hope across rural and urban areas. He described the Vikas Vahan Yatra as a new step toward connecting citizens directly with the government's programmes and achievements.

Under this initiative, specially designated ‘Vikas Vahan’ units will operate in all 314 blocks, 115 notified area councils, and 5 municipal corporations. These mobile units will distribute government publications such as ‘Pragati Prabah’ and other informative booklets showcasing the accomplishments of the past year. Citizens will also be able to view videos related to various developmental schemes.

The Chief Minister underscored the importance of public participation in the success of these schemes and stressed the role of outreach in informing citizens—especially in remote areas—about the various welfare initiatives of the government. “This effort will further decentralize governance and bring the administration closer to the people,” he added.

Minister for Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Shri Rabi Narayan Naik, also spoke on the occasion, stating that with the blessings of the people, the double-engine government has taken responsibility for Odisha’s inclusive development and prosperity. “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and Chief Minister Mohan Majhi in the State, the government is committed to building a prosperous Odisha. This is a time of dreams, determination, and possibilities,” he said.

Ekamra-Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh, Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Smt. Anu Garg, Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Ahuja, and Principal Secretary of the department Shri Girish S. N. also addressed the gathering. The event featured a welcome address by the Chief Secretary and a vote of thanks from the department secretary.
