Delhi, 12 June (H.S.): The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College and Hospital, along with the Super Specialty Hospital in Sanath Nagar, Hyderabad, exemplifies the Government of India’s dedication to providing affordable healthcare. Spanning 21 acres, with an additional 11 acres for future expansion, this campus serves over 72.6 lakh Insured Persons (IPs) and their families, establishing itself as a national leader in healthcare delivery, education, and technology.
With a total of 1,044 beds—including 159 ICU and 45 dialysis beds, as well as 10 modular operation theatres—it offers compassionate and patient-centric care. The hospital handles an outpatient load of over 3,200 patients daily, with more than 200 admissions, making it one of the busiest healthcare facilities within the ESIC framework. Since 2019, both hospitals on this campus have been recognized as the Best Performing ESIC Hospital for facilities with more than 500 beds.
Accredited by NABH and NABL, and certified under ISO, this healthcare institution has emerged as a pioneer in public health administration. Its medical services cover a vast array of super specialties. In Cardiology and CTVS, it conducts intricate procedures like TAVI/TAVR, CABG, and interventional electrophysiology. The Nephrology and Urology departments offer round-the-clock dialysis and conduct both live and cadaveric kidney transplants. Neurology and Neuro-surgery capabilities include advanced techniques such as awake craniotomies and intra-operative monitoring. Additional specialties such as Paediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Oncology perform high-end interventions with mortality rates below national averages. Furthermore, the Hematology department successfully manages bone marrow transplants, while the PMR department provides comprehensive care through fully-equipped Cardiac and Neuro-rehabilitation units. Emergency services are available 24/7, underlining the institution's commitment to continuous, high-quality healthcare.
Advanced diagnostic and laboratory services enhance clinical care at the campus. The implementation of IT solutions, such as the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and a Laboratory Information System linked with Dhanwantri HER, allows for efficient, real-time, and paperless diagnostics. Routine tests performed include Immuno-Histochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and PCR, particularly for oncology cases.
Guided by evidence-based protocols and a strong quality assurance culture, the hospital administration enforces strict compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) in areas like infection control, medication safety, fall prevention, and patient identification. A grievance redressal mechanism, regular staff training, and ongoing quality improvement initiatives ensure high service standards.
Sanath Nagar has pioneered IT-enabled patient services such as Home Drug Delivery, Home Sample Collection, Online Consultation via the AAA+ App, and 5G-enabled ambulances, establishing a new standard in public health innovation and outreach.
In medical education, the campus supports over 125 MBBS, 83 MD/MS, 15 MCh, 12 DrNB, and 72 paramedical students across various departments, alongside 25 AFIH trainees per batch. The institute boasts a rich academic environment with digital libraries, modern laboratories, skill labs, simulation-based training, and lectures from prominent faculty. It honors the ESIC’s foundational pillars: Learning and Teaching; Industry and Society Engagement; Research and Knowledge Transfer; and Leadership with Good Governance.
This dynamic, high-performing campus acts as a hub for public health service delivery while fostering future medical leaders. With ongoing expansion and a sustained focus on technology, skill development, and patient care, ESIC Sanath Nagar is set to become a national Centre of Excellence in public healthcare and medical education.
