New Delhi, June 12 (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned the vandalism at Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh. Party spokesperson Sambit Patra emphasized the government's sensitive approach to the issue and highlighted Tagore's significance as the author of national anthems for both India and Bangladesh. The attack on Tagore's house, reportedly by members of Jamaat-e-Islami and Hifazat-e-Islam, was labeled premeditated.
Patra noted Tagore's extraordinary contributions to literature and philosophy, asserting that his legacy transcends national boundaries. He criticized Bangladesh's interim government for failing to protect such an important international monument, as no action has been taken in response to the attack. Dr. Patra stated that this act is an assault not just on a building, but on an ideology, and called for global unity against the incident.
