Kanpur, 12 June (HS): A 26-year-old
man suspected of raping a six-year-old child was detained on Thursday during a
police encounter in the Ghatampur neighborhood of this city, according to
authorities. The culprit, Shivam Sachan alias Kallu, was shot in the right leg
during the retaliatory police shooting. On Tuesday night, Sachan reportedly
raped the underage girl and seriously harmed her. The survivor was immediately
sent to the Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital, where her condition is severe. Deependra
Nath Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), stated that police teams
were conducting a search and combing operation in the Ramsari jungle region
when they received information that the accused was hiding. When the accused encountered
the cops, he fired a few shots from his country-made weapon.
One bullet injured Station House
Officer (Ghatampur) Dhananjay Kumar Pandey's bulletproof vest, and he narrowly
escaped. Police responded with
retaliatory fire, leaving the accused with a gunshot wound in his right leg,
according to DCP Chaudhary. Sachan first tried to deceive the police, but after
later interrogation, he admitted to the crime, according to the DCP. Krishnakant
Yadav, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ghatampur, stated that after
raping the girl, Sachan came home, changed his clothing, and joined the
victim's family in their search for her.
