Burdwan, 10 June (H.S.): The dead body of a newborn girl was recovered from the road next to the ditch in the Golapbag campus of Burdwan University on Tuesday.
According to local sources, on Tuesday morning, people saw a bag on the road next to Burdwan University. When they opened it after getting suspicious, the body of an infant girl was found in it. The initial estimate is that the newborn was two to three days old. On information, the police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital.
Local people claimed that this road has been in bad condition for a long time. The lampposts are broken. The road becomes dark as soon as the sun sets. Anti-social elements take advantage of this. Passers-by and local residents demanded that along with repairing the lampposts, arrangements should be made to install CCTV.
Notably, when Rabi Ranjan Chatterjee was the chairman of BDA (Burdwan Development Authority), the lamppost was installed on the road.
However, the police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
